All volunteeer and internship positions are offered through the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs at Fordham University, the academic arm of the CIHC.
IIHA/CIHC volunteer and internship opportunities provide a substantive and challenging work experience with the possibility to expand your knowledge and understanding of humanitarian aid. The internships provide an entry point into the humanitarian affairs field, as well as a valuable understanding of the main issues and dilemmas that humanitarian affairs is constantly forced to evaluate. In addition, the work environment is flexible and supportive with the possibility for growth.
Interns are engaged in various initiatives in order to further the goals and functioning of the organization. Typical activities include program administration, assisting in the coordination of our international programs, updating and maintaining our web content, furthering our social media presence, assisting in the creation of our monthly newsletter, assisting with events, etc.
Volunteer and internship opportunities generally range from four weeks to one year. The internships are agreed upon by the intern and the IIHA/CIHC to be on a full or part time basis, although we ask for a minimum committment of 10 hours per week. All internships are unpaid and performed in our office in New York.
All applicants should send a letter (no more than one page) explaining why they wish to work in humanitarian affairs and how an internship with IIHA/CIHC will further their career goals of working in the humanitarian assistance field. Applicants should also include their resume and a brief writing sample.
