How do I apply?

What is the total cost for this program?

In 2009, the course in Penang, Malaysia is grant-funded by the Helen Hamlyn Trust. However, there is a $800 fee for the course in Barcelona, Spain. Participants are responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the course site.

Where and when is this course taught?

The HNTC course is taught once a year at a rotating venue. Past locations have included Istanbul, Geneva, and New York. In 2008, the course will be held in Budapest, Hungary. Please refer to our Calendar of Events for future dates and locations.

What language(s) is this course taught in?

Currently, the HNTC program is only taught in English.

Who are the preferred candidates?

The entry qualifications for the course are a university degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience. Preference will be given to students with humanitarian field experience, emergency or development.

Is academic credit granted for this course?

No, academic credit is not granted for this course. However, participants receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

How long is this course?

The course runs for approximately one week.

When is the final date to apply?

Applications are taken on a rolling basis.  Once the course has been filled, a waiting list will be implemented.

Is it possible to defer my acceptance to another HNTC course?

No, deferment is not permitted. A participant must reapply for the following HNTC course.

If accepted, do I need a visa?

Depending on your citizenship, you may need a visa.   Upon acceptance to the program, our staff will send you an invitation letter to the program, which can be used to apply for a visa. Although we may be able to provide assistance in obtaining you a visa, it is the participant’s responsibility to obtain his/her visa.
