In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it is clear that there needs to be a greater understanding of the preparation for quick and focused reaction to disasters, whether they be natural or man-made. In either case, each could lead to a complex emergency that dwarfs the initial problem. By focusing on a select group of decision makers and senior level policy implementers, this course will benefit the local populations in the target region who are severely impacted by hurricanes and resulting complex emergencies.
The course utilizes existent strategies and tools, practical exercises, case studies, and interactive multi-cultural discussion to explore the issues.
Each DMTC course will have approximately 20 – 25 participants in every course. The courses will be held every six months, each time in a different location within the target region so as to ensure a diverse group of participants from many countries within the region.
