The Center for International Humanitarian Cooperation (CIHC) aims to professionalize training in the humanitarian field. By covering a variety of topics, including disaster management, mental health issues, and negotiation, the CIHC programs prepare members of international relief organizations and humanitarian workers to be effective in their work in conflict and post-conflict areas.
The Center has an active book series that is devoted to improving the effectiveness of humanitarian relief programs. With contributions by leading professionals, the books are practical guides to responding to the many different effects of civil strife, natural disasters, epidemics, and other crises: medical, political, legal, economic, social, and cultural.

Edel Quinn Odongo a Social Worker in her native country Kenya, has been utilizing her experience from IDHA 23 as the Founder and Operations Manager for the Jim Karaffa Business Academy for Women, based in Kiberia, Kenya. From her experience working with street children and mothers and in the various slums of Nairobi for over twelve years, Edel discovered that the only way of solving the social and economic problems of Kenya’s impoverished is to empower them through education and financial assistance such as a micro-lending program. Mrs. Quinn decided she would begin by helping the struggling women of her country and established the JKBAW in 2002. This is the first business academy for women in Kenya. The academy provides courses on business and personal well being, instilling women with the confidence and practical skills necessary in undertaking their own business project(s). By providing this educational and financial opportunity for women Mrs. Quinn is fostering the advancement and development of her people.
